It all begins with an idea of Gianni Carbone, on a day when Federico Rebora (son of the departed
Giovanni) was dining at the renowned “Manuelina” in Recco with his friends Gloria (daughter of
Gianni) and her husband Paolo.
The acquaintance between Gianni "L’OSTE" [the Innkeeper] and Giovanni "U PRUFESSU" [the
Professor] dates back to many years ago, when – talking strictly in Genoese dialect – they started
conversing on pansoti and fugassa, true and invented traditions, Barbera wine.
Being "U PRUFESSU" gone, his friend Gianni Carbone desired to promote the establishment of a
prize named after Giovanni Rebora, an award for a work on the civilization of dining as close to the
"way of thinking" of Rebora, on the same wavelength of the "historical and gastronomic thinking"
of the Carbone family.
By a singular circumstance, odd years hang over significant instants in the genesis and history of
the Rebora Prize.
In 2007 the Professore passes away; in 2009 Slow Food Publisher releases “Selected cuts” as a
breeding ground for the award to be instituted thanks to Manuelina. In 2013 and 2015 sections
Young Researchers and Food Bloggers were switched on respectively.
Next edition will take place in 2017: the Prize keeps exciting.
