PERIODO IPOTETICO: 2° TIPO
Il periodo ipotetico del 2° tipo indica la scarsa possibilità che una situazione si
verifichi.
I tempi usati in inglese sono:
Frase principale o main clause
Frase dipendente o “if clause”
CONDIZIONALE PRESENTE IF + PASSATO SEMPLICE
I would /’d help you
if I had time.
He’d help you
if you asked him.
I would run away
if I saw a ghost.
• Il congiuntivo imperfetto italiano è sempre tradotto in inglese con il past simple
(passato semplice).
• Il verbo to be, usato nella “if clause”, è di solito tradotto con were per tutte le
persone:
If I were you, I wouldn’t go there.
If I were taller, I would play basketball.
If I were you, I would leave.
