Dear Sir,
I cannot understand how is it possible that nobody can intervene regarding the trafficking of dogs.
In Italy, many animalists seem to think that every animal moving towards the North of Europe will
end up in vivisection centres.
This story circulates like a poison in the veins of the animalist world.
Accusations of all types flow in a most devastating manner.
This confusion about the real nature of traffic has created wild accusations often verging on paranoia
Often innocent people are accused of the most horrendous acts.
Accusing an animalist to be involved with trafficking in animals is the worst thing they can suffer.
It is soul destroying and evil.
But there are pseudo animalists involved with this traffic. Of this am sure. The traffic is a reality, the
problem is the individuation of the culprits and of the associations that are part of these horrific
operations.
To think that every animal moving in the direction of Northern Europe ends up in a vivisection
centre is simply crazy, but to negate these operations is equally crazy and often an act of bad faith.
Nobody can say what is happens to animals moving from Eastern Europe and Southern Europe in the
direction of Northern Europe.
The animalists are too divided and weak to find out.
The animalist movements are not strong enough to bring about an authentic investigation.
Animalism is a compassionate and chaotic world at the same time
The States so far don’t intervene. To them, animals are meaningless.
The big associations shout about the trafficking but don’t move a finger to produce a realistic,
professional investigation.
Everybody screams, the blogs are bursting with accusations, but it doesn’t seem possible to
understand what is really happening to the animals moving from Southern and Eastern Europe
towards Northern Europe.
You would imagine that the big associations would try to solve this riddle.
But they do nothing and the horror continues.
The Germans and the Swiss answer these accusations by saying that animalists are wrong about
thinking that the animals end up in vivisection centres. They insist that it is unthinkable that the
animals can pass the frontier without been stopped.
Imagine the situation in Italy. Animalists find stray dogs often in terrible condition .
They have two choice:
Let the dogs end up in shelters similar to lagers or take them abroad in shelters that are ready to
accept them.
But if they do this a vast group of animalists accuse them of selling the animals for vivisection.
And this group is adamant about not allowing dogs out of Italy because they think they will end up in
vivisection centres.
Many animalists said that they have visited the shelters in Germany and Switzerland and are
convinced that the dogs are well looked after. But the accusations keep coming.
This kind of war is going on without end
The question I ask is why doesn’t the European association join forces and invest a certain amount of
time and money to initiate a professional investigation?
What surprises me is that the German associations, which seem more organized than ours, are not
doing enough to understand the nature of the phenomenon, and don’t want to identify the source of
this evil.
I am flabbergasted when I am confronted by this silence.
When one tries to get a response, it is always faced by the same vague, undetermined answers.
I help a lot of association financially, within my limits, but when I ask questions I never get an
answer.
And I doubt that you will answer.
The question I ask is: how can an organized, serious, efficient nation like Germany not been able to
give an answer regarding these horrific trafficking? I am talking about State intervention and a
thoroughly research made by the main associations.
Why can’t the European associations join forces to come to the root of this problem?
What is preventing the big associations to act?
Why do they denounce but do nothing more?
What is the real reason behind this?

Hello!
Although the trafficking of dogs is not our issue, we have prepared a statement about this:
The rumours that dogs from Eastern or Southern Europe are sold to labs in Germany are in our
opinion not true.
1. The German Animal Protection Law allows procedures only purpose bred animals. Exceptions can
be granted by the competent authorities, but these are mainly for wild animals and agricultural
animals. It is rather unlikely that the authorities grant exceptions for dogs from other countries or
from dubious sources.
2. In Germany dogs with unknown origin and background are regarded as useless for research
purposes. In Germany only purpose bred Beagles, Foxhounds and cross breeds are used. I would not
exclude that in very rare cases also dogs from unknown sources are used, but this cannot explain the
great number of dogs shipped from Eastern and Southern Europe to Germany.
3. According to the official German statistics of the use of animals for scientific purposes that the use
of dogs and cats is quite stable (about 3,000 to 5,000 dogs and about 800 cats per year). Also according
to the statistics most of the dogs are bred in registered centres in Germany.
4. The animal shelters in Germany are full of dogs which no-one wants, including so called “fighting
dogs” and German shepards. These dogs often have got psychological disorders and also can cause
problems with the authorities (e.g. special licence for certain breeds). That’s why not many people
want to adopt such a dog. Street dogs from Eastern and Southern Europe are regarded as
uncomplicated and grateful. They are very popular pets.
5. There are many German organisations and individuals who try to take care of the huge stray
animal problems in East- and South-European countries. They run shelters in those countries, but
often see the only realistic chance to help the animals by finding new homes for them in Germany.
Some animal welfare organisations in Germany don’t support this shipping of stray dogs to
Germany, because of the overfilled shelters in Germany. My personal opinion is that, if the stray dogs
were not shipped to Germany, it wouldn’t relieve the situation in the German shelters, because the
stray dogs address a different target group of potential dog owners.
6. The main and in my opinion only problem with this issue is that there are scrupulous people who
misuse the popularity of Eastern and Southern stray dogs and make business out of it. So people in
Germany should be warned not to buy dogs from dubious business men.

The best way to end the cruelty in these regions is to encourage the local people themselves to work
against it - hold public demonstrations, take their case to the media, and use any political clout at

For this reason, we recommend that you contact animal advocacy groups in Italy. For them, the
problem is local, and they will be your best source of information about local laws and other relevant

site that offers an extensive listing of organizations categorized by country. We also recommend
contacting the World Society for the Protection of Animals and the Humane Society International;

Ultimately, great courage and strength will be required to fight against the injustice and cruelties

I contact PETA because I am member of PETA I help you every month and now I am asking you for
help.
The problem we face is not Italian but European.
This traffic moves towards Germany and Northern Europe from various part of Europe.
This traffic is intense and continuous and it is the source of great suffering.
We cannot do anything because we lack the means to activate a serious investigation, but only the
great organizations can do this. The point is that they don’t want to get involved.
The big organizations tell us to contact other organizations that ask to contact other organizations.
We are going round in circles. At the end we do everything ourselves.
It is utterly incredible that with the sort of accusations moved towards certain German organizations
the governments don't seem to move.
Luke… we are dealing with parliamentary interrogations and interventions from the Italian Senate
not from indiscriminate accusation oh hysterical animalists. What you see in attach are
parliamentary interrogations not crazy allegations. And I imagine that this is something that concerns
Europe not only Italy. Of course people are denouncing, but if the big organizations don’t activate
some form of serious investigations nothing will happen.

GLI SCHIAVI E GLI ANIMALI
Vi ricordate il bellissimo film di Mario Monicelli con Tognazzi “Vogliamo i colonnelli?”
La storia si ripete: il sogno della giunta militare che mette a posto la nazione con l’uomo forte ha
radici profonde e lontane. Radici vetuste. E spesso, in questo tragico momento dettato dalla crisi, i
morti viventi, come Alba Dorata in Grecia, gli zombi del lontano colpo di Stato del 1967, riemergono
dai tenebrosi sepolcri.
Ai Tempi di Socrate e Platone i figli dei ricchi (la jeunesse dorée come la chiama Canfora, o i posh
boys etoniani che parlano “con la mela in bocca”, come li chiamano gli inglesi, o i principini, i figli
della elite rossa corrotta, come li chiamano in Cina) sono stanchi di sottostare al popolo. Vogliono
liberarsi della democrazia. Ricordate “The Remains of the Day”? Stessa roba. Ricordate il distinto
signore che chiede al maggiordomo domande essenziali sulla politica del tempo e non ricevendo
risposta chiede: il voto di questo ignorante ha il valore del mio? Stessa cosa.
E’ il 411 a.c. e i ricchi si domandano se sia giusto che lo Stato sia amministrato dalla canaglia, da
poveracci fetenti, da pezzenti che votando decidono il destino della polis. E’ giusto si chiedono che noi,
belli, colti, aristocratici, pieni di soldi, dobbiamo soggiacere al volere del volgo? Guardateci, siamo
simili agli Dei e dobbiamo sottometterci a questo miserabile, assurdo potere?
E tutto inizia con il taglio del pene delle Erme. E’ il 415 a.c. e i posh boys la combinano grossa:
mutilano le erme tagliandole l’eretto dirindello. E la prendono a ridere mentre il demos si infuria.
Non solo castrano il Dio Ermes ma profanano i misteri eleusini. Si sganasciano dal ridere imitando la
sacra cerimonia. La jeunesse dorée si allieta con profane bricconate che fanno inviperire il popolo.
Ne esce un putiferio e Alcibiade, forse innocente, ci va di mezzo. Il Demos urla: “Sono quei fetenti figli
dei ricchi che ronzano intorno a Socrate ad aver compiuto il sacrilegio. Gli Dei ce la faranno pagare.
La colpa è del maledetto filosofo che infetta i cervelli dei giovani aristocratici. E’ lui che avvelena la
crème de la crème”.
Nel frattempo la spedizione Ateniese è miseramente naufragata in Sicilia. Siracusa ha vinto la guerra.
E’ il 413 a.c. ed è giunto il momento dei colonnelli. Basta con la Democrazia, seguiamo Sparta, basta
con il chiacchiericcio monocorde della boulè , qui ci vuole un potere gestito da pochi non da una
massa di idioti.
Occorre un gruppo ristretto con i testicoli di acciaio, come il nostro Benito, con i coglioni del Duce.
E’ il momento degli oligarchi. Appoggiati dagli Spartani Frinico, Antifone, Pisandro, Teramene,
Callescro prendono il potere. E come accade con penosa regolarità, cominciano a litigare tra di loro.
E’ il solito vaudeville degli estremisti e dei moderati. Alla fine nasce un governo “moderato” detto dei
“cinquemila”. Ma il colpo di Stato non dura a lungo, ha vita breve. Alcibiade rientra trionfante.
L’oligarchia finisce nelle fauci dei cani. Collassa nel 409 a.c.
Ma è dopo la sconfitta ateniese di Egospotami nel 405 a.c. che i guai seri per il demos cominciano.
Dopo la resa ateniese, gli spartani impongono cinque efori che governano la polis e, attraverso
Lisandro, mettono fine all’esperimento democratico. I giovani aristocratici gioiscono; urlano che è la
fine del miserabile governo degli straccioni. Crizia, imparentato con Platone, è la testuggine
dell’attacco contro il demos . Crizia è il precursore di tutti i fascismi. E’ il grande padre dei tiranni. E’
l’ispiratore principe di tutti i bombaroli neri. E’ l’incarnazione di tutto ciò che detesta la democrazia.
E’ il padre di tutti i fascisti che morirono nel tentativo di imporre un governo tirannico.
Crizia cerca di trascinare Platone nell’insalubre avventura. Platone prima ci casca, aderisce al
Governo dei Trenta, poi si tira indietro e non lo segue. Platone ha le sue idee e mira a una forma di
governo che potrebbe definirsi comunismo filosofico e che assorbe e trasforma le idee di democrazia e
di oligarchia. Guardiani filosofici controllano la polis che è strutturata con caratteristiche comuniste,
al punto che anche le donne sono in comune. Senofonte, il grande ammiratore degli spartani e autore
dell’Anabasis segue Crizia. E’ cavaliere con i Trenta ed è completamente compromesso. Non ascolta
Socrate o Platone. Ed è come se un politico americano si fosse alleato con i sovietici per porre fine alla
democrazia negli Stati Uniti. Il popolo si china, soffre un’oltraggiosa proscrizione, subisce, mormora e
ricorda.
Crizia e gli oligarchi si battono fino in fondo. Ma la giunta fallisce. L’Egemonia dei Trenta Tiranni
non ha vita lunga. Crizia muore nel 403 a.c., un anno dopo aver preso il potere combattendo contro le
forze di Transibulo. Lo Spartano Pausania prende atto dello stato delle cose e impone una
pacificazione forzata e l’amnistia generale. Gli oligarchi si ritirano ad Eleusi e creano il loro Stato. La
loro Repubblica di Salò.
Ad Atene la democrazia viene restaurata. Nel 400 a.c. lo statarello tirannico collassa e gli oligarchi
vengono messi a morte. Nel 399 a.c. le fatali ombre della nemesi oligarchica lambiscono Socrate.
Socrate non è coinvolto con i Trenta Tiranni non ha aderito al governo oligarchico, gli è stato anche
impedito di insegnare, è detestato dal demos e dagli oligarchi, non ha seguito Sofocle che è diventato
membro del Collegio dei Dieci Probuli , ma ha ispirato con la sua critica della democrazia la Jeunesse
dorèe. I suoi discepoli sono stati all’avanguardia della rivoluzione oligarchica. Senofonte in
particolare è stato attivo. Crizia essenziale. Platone molto attento. Lo stesso Tucidide è stato
simpatetico. La nemesis giunge con un calice traboccante di cicuta. Socrate lo beve con grande forza
d’animo e risolutezza e il demos si carica la colpa della sua morte, come gli ebrei, ingiustamente,
quella di Gesù di Nazareth.
Dopo il fallimento della rivoluzione Senofonte tenta una nuova avventura. Appoggia l’usurpatore
Ciro il Giovane, che sarà sconfitto nel 401 a.c. a Cunassa, si ritirerà con i mercenari greci e dalla
sconvolgente vicenda nascerà l’Anabasis
Ma è vera democrazia quella ateniese?
Platone nel Menesseno risponde: “E’ un’aristocrazia con l’appoggio delle masse”.
In termini pratici: Pericle comanda e il proletariato e il sottoproletariato approvano.
Il potere giacobino e quello leninista saranno differenti? Forse no: comandano i borghesi e il
proletariato approva. Gli intellettuali comandano in nome del popolo.
Cerchiamo di essere chiari: la democrazia ateniese era il brutale imperialismo dell’aristocrazia
appoggiato dalle masse. Chi soccombeva nelle polis vinte finiva male. Finiva morto o schiavo.
Do you remember Melo? Melo è neutrale con simpatie spartane, non vuole prendere parte alla lega
delio – attica; nel 416 a.c. viene distrutta, gli uomini in grado di combattere massacrati, le donne i e i
bambini resi schiavi. Per capire l’imperialismo ateniese è importante interiorizzare il dialogo melio –
ateniese riportato da Tucidide: la spietata logica imperialista appare nella giusta luce. E’ il brutale
diritto dei possenti: e la legge del più forte , ci informano gli ateniesi, vige anche tra gli Dei. In effetti è
pura hybris mascherata da logica.
La democrazia ateniese era una democrazia limitata. Gli schiavi non esistevano e le donne vivevano
meglio a Sparta. Ma quelli erano i tempi. Non ci si può aspettare nel 400 a.c. una democrazia
strutturata come quella svedese. La democrazia ateniese era spietata verso i vinti e l’impero era una
necessità per tenere buone le masse: dava lavoro e ricchezza. Più guerre e più lavoro per i marinai
greci. La flotta era il loro pane. Ma come nel mondo attuale c’è chi guarda verso il non umano e cerca
di difenderlo così nel mondo ellenico c’era chi difendeva i barbari e gli schiavi. Se Teognide dice che
“una testa di schiavo non è mai dritta” e che “da una schiava non è mai nato un figlio libero”,
Alcidamante replica che “la divinità ha fatto tutti liberi e nessuno schiavo la natura ha generato”.
Platone ha forti dubbi e dice che l’uguaglianza produce la degenerazione dello Stato, troppa
compassione verso gli schiavi genera la dissoluzione della polis. E’ la stessa musica se si difende il non
umano.
E le schiave? Ermione chiede ad Andromaca - nel dramma omonimo - : come puoi dormire con
l’assassino del tuo amato marito? Andromaca risponde che basta una notte per cancellare l’orrore.
Adattarsi o crepare. Questo passava il convento. O la polis.
E anche contro la visione degli efferati barbari qualcuno insorge. Antifone detesta il razzismo
ellenico e dice che i greci hanno posto un abisso tra loro e i barbari, ma per natura siamo tutti uguali:
“respiriamo dal naso e prendiamo cibo con le mani.” Siamo tutti barbari. Siamo tutti abitatori di
questo pianeta.
Vox populi vox Dei?
Ma vogliamo scherzare. Nei patri lidi la vox populi ci ha dato: Mussolini, cinquant’anni di corruzione
democristiana e diciassette anni di Berlusconi.
Vox populi?
Nel 406 a.c. dopo la grande vittoria delle isole Arginuse i generali vittoriosi sono messi morte dal
demos.
La colpa è che, a causa della tempesta, non hanno raccolto i naufraghi. Pura follia. Ma questo è il
potere del popolo impazzito.
Meglio Sparta?
