Amalfi - Mito della sua fondazione
C'è un mito in cui il nome della città ha le sue radici. e che afferma che il dio
Ercole ha costruito Amalfi. Amalfi era il nome di una ninfa bellissima di cui
Ercole si innamorò.
Quando la ninfa morì, Ercole volle seppellirla nel luogo che lui riteneva il più bello
di tutti, la Costiera Amalfitana e sulla sua tomba l’eroe edificò la nuova città in
modo da rendere immortale la sua amata, circondandola sia di mare che di
montagne. Più probabilmente, Amalfi era un insediamento fondato dai romani che
lì naufragarono durante un viaggio a Costantinopoli nel corso del quarto secolo
dC, mentre stavano sfuggendo agli attacchi dei barbari su Roma. Amalfi era una
Repubblica Marinara molto potente e ricca e il suo splendore fu durante il
Medioevo,
Amalfi – Myth of its foundation
There is a myth in which the name of the city has its roots that is stating that the
god Hercules built Amalfi. Amalfi was the name of a beautiful nymph with whom
Hercules fell in love.
When the nymph died, Hercules wanted to bury her in the place which he
considered the most beautiful of all, the Amalfi Coast. The hero built the new city
on the tomb of his beloved, in order to make her immortal, surrounding it by both
sea and mountains. More likely, Amalfi was a settlement founded by the Romans
who were shipwrecked on that coast during a journey to Constantinople, during the
4th century AD, while escaping barbarian attacks on Rome. Amalfi was a very
powerful and rich Sea Republic and its historical pinnacle was during the Middle
Ages.
