Jasper Johns nasce ad Augusta, USA, il 15 Maggio del 1930. Compirà quest’anno 75 anni. HAPPY
BIRTHDAY, MISTER JOHNS! performance dell’artista Angelo Ricciardi trae spunto da “ three flags ”
(1958), uno dei suoi lavori più noti, ma con una leggera modifica: le stelle sostituiscono le strisce e
viceversa. Ciò fa sì che nasca una nuova bandiera, che, ci piace pensare, sia proprio quella che oggi Johns
dipingerebbe.
Le tre nuove bandiere saranno realizzate, in occasione del compleanno di Johns, in forma di torta a tre piani,
che sarà tagliata ed assaggiata il giorno del suo compleanno a Napoli presso la galleria 404 arte
contemporanea e allo stesso tempo in altri luoghi in Europa e negli USA.
Un omaggio al lavoro di un grande artista, e, allo stesso tempo, una visualizzazione dello stato
(irreversibile?) delle cose.
Jasper Johns, born May 15th, 1930 in Augusta, Georgia, USA celebrates his 75th Birthday this year. HAPPY
BIRTHDAY, MISTER JOHNS! performance by the artist Angelo Ricciardi is inspired by “ three flags ”
(1958), one of Johns’ most noted works, but with a slight modification: the stars substitute for the stripes and
visa versa. A new flag is born which we think likely to be the flag that Johns would paint today.
The three new flags will be realized on this occasion of Johns’ birthday in the form of a three layer cake,
which will be cut and tasted in Naples at the 404 arte contemporanea Gallery, contemporaneously with
other locations in Europe and the USA on the very day of his Birthday.
A homage to the work of a great artist becomes simultaneously a visualization of the (ir)reversible state of
things.
