BENVENUTO
A ROMA
Gentile Ospite,
è con grande orgoglio che, come Sindaco, le do il
benvenuto a Roma. Una città splendida e unica al
mondo, che racchiude in sé uno sconfinato
patrimonio artistico, storico e culturale.
Una ricchezza enorme che deve essere valorizzata, se
possibile, ancora di più per metterla a disposizione
dei tanti visitatori che vogliono scoprire le molte
sfaccettature di questa città: dalle chiese alle piazze,
dai musei alle aree archeologiche, dalle strade fino
alle fontane. La stessa identità di Roma affonda le
proprie radici nella sua storia millenaria, frutto anche
della centralità che ha nel Mediterraneo, mare di
confronto e di dialogo tra le diverse culture.
Ma Roma non è soltanto famosa per il suo passato
plurimillenario e per i suoi ineguagliati monumenti:
è una città viva e vitale che offre al visitatore scorci
meravigliosi, sapori e colori frutto di una lunga
tradizione anche nell'ospitalità. Roma regala al
turista anche spettacoli di alto livello, luoghi di
incontro, mostre, eventi sportivi, esibizioni musicali
classiche e moderne.

la follia la leggerezza delle proprie scelte.

scena lavorando al testo per gli attori,
in un affondo nell’algido repertorio del
maggiore autore norvegese
contemporaneo. Siamo in una vecchia
casa isolata sul crinale di un fiordo,
dove una storia d’amore sta finendo.
Nei silenzi tra i personaggi, negli spazi
distillati del non detto, emerge una
tessitura narrativa che intreccia
passato e presente, nostalgia e rabbia,
pulsioni magmatiche sotto una
superficie in calma apparente.

canta”, the director removes himself
from the scene, writing the actor's lines,

■ L’arte indiana del kutiyattam è una parte
fondamentale di quel corpus di discipline
antichissime che fanno dell’India la culla
del teatro e della danza. Unica forma di
teatro in sanscrito sopravvissuta fino ai
nostri giorni, è stata riconosciuta
dall’Unesco “patrimonio orale e
immateriale dell’umanità”. Recitazione
stilizzata, mimica e danza, trionfo di costumi
e maschere, questi sono gli elementi di
un’arte sacra che, nel caso dello spettacolo
presentato, va a trasfigurare in immagini gli
antefatti del Mahabharata, il maggior
poema epico indiano.

fundamental part of what makes India
the birthplace of theatre & dance. It is
the only form of theatre in Sanskrit that
has survived till the present day, & has
been recognised by UNESCO as a
‘Masterpiece of the Oral & Intangible
Heritage of Humanity’. Stylised acting,
mime & dance, a triumph of costumes
and masks, these are the elements of
this sacred art which, in the show
performed here, transfigures in images
the history of the Mahabharata, the
most important Indian epic poem.

Kupferstichkabinett dei Musei Statali di

dialogo costante tra filosofia e musica.
Presenti in mostra oltre alle edizioni

was born from an extraordinary spiritual

the original editions, the exhibition
includes monoprints and monotypes,
large plates of different kinds of metal.
They are joined by the composer’s

to host this improvised arts festival.
It presents a wide and varied cross
section of artistic expressions (from jazz,
improvisation, to contemporary music,
and from visual arts, to dance, literature,
and theatre) as it explores artistic
experimentation that is tied in a particular
way to the dimension of impromptu
creativity. Seventy events will take place
once a week for the next 7 months (Each
Monday at 9 p.m.) and starting in
November there's the Grottelli-MazzelliGwis trio (on the 3rd), the Biondini-Girotto
duo (on the 17th) and finally a solo
performance by French clarinettist Luois
Sclavis (on the 24th).

Il lavoro a cui è principalmente legato il suo
nome è il disco del 1976 "Oxygène", che lo
scorso anno ha festeggiato il compimento
dei suoi trenta anni. E Jean Michel Jarre
porterà nel concerto romano proprio le sei
parti che compongono questo progetto,
recuperando anche tipi di strumenti
analogici utilizzati nell'originaria
registrazione.

■ Il Romaeuropa Festival ospita per
venerdì 14 e sabato 15 novembre la
compagnia guidata dai due coreografi
Josè Montalvo e Dominique Hervieu,
(corealizzato con la rassegna
Tersicore). In programma uno
spettacolo interamente dedicato a
George Gershwin, compositore
statunitense che ha saputo fondere
con estrema eleganza tessiture
timbriche e impianti formali della
composizione mutuati dalla tradizione
classica, con il linguaggio e
l'espressività proprie della musica
afro-americana.
E con le musiche di Gershwin la
compagnia Montalvo-Hervieucon si è
già confrontata portando in scena uno
spettacolo su "Porgy and Bess", uno dei
titoli più noti del compositore. Questa
volta, tra danza contemporanea, afrojazz, hip-hop, clown-dancing, capoeira
e altri stili acrobatici, i due celebri
coreografi porteranno in scena un
lavoro che attraversa la produzione
musicale di Gershwin che spazia tra
pagine scritte per musical fino al
cinema senza escludere lavori destinati
alle sale da concerti, arrivando a
toccare musiche e balli della cultura
afroamericana dei jazz club dei primi
del Novecento.

the 15th of November the Romaeuropa
Festival presents the dance company
directed by the 2 choreographers
Josè Montalvo and Dominique Hervieu.
The show is dedicated in its entirety to
George Gershwin, the American
composer who in his fruitful career
managed to so elegantly merge the
sounds and instruments of traditional
classical music with the expressive
language of Afro-American music.
The Montalvo-Hervieucon company
has already used Gershwin's music
in the past in their show based
on "Porgy and Bess", one of the
composer's most famous pieces.
This time, the show will feature
everything from contemporary dance,
to afro-jazz dance, from hip-hop.
to clown-dancing, and even capoeira
and other acrobatic styles of dancing,
when the two talented choreographers
present us with a show that uses music
Gershwin initially wrote for musicals,
and then for film, without excluding
pieces that were written to be
performed in concert halls, arriving
right up to using Afro-American music,
culture and dance from American jazz
clubs dating right back to the very start
of the 1900's.

Fondazione Musica per Roma in
collaborazione con Editori Laterza ed il

historians who'll
discuss historical
politicians and how
they governed, for
better or for worse.
On the 2nd there's a lesson with Chiara
Frugoni entitled “Health governed,
the three popes of Saint Francesco”;
on the 23rd Alessandro Barbero
conducts "Soloman the Magnificent”.
The lessons will be introduced by Paolo
Di Paolo and are organised by the
Fondazione Musica per Roma in
collaboration with Editori Laterza, with
the aid of the UniCredit Group.

■ La XIV edizione del MedFilm Festival –
Cinema del Mediterraneo a Roma, offrirà
ancora una volta un nutrito panorama sulle
cinematografie mediterranee, europee e
mediorientali con ospiti d’onore Turchia e
Germania. Le proiezioni e gli eventi del
Concorso Ufficiale si svolgeranno al
Palazzo delle Esposizioni mentre la
retrospettiva completa dedicata al giovane
regista turco Fatih Akin, già vincitore
dell’Orso d’Oro a Berlino con “La sposa
turca”, avrà luogo nel vicino Teatro dei
Dioscuri, dove saranno proiettati anche i
film della sezione documentari. A Villa
Medici, infine, sarà possibile vedere i film
delle altre sezioni in concorso insieme ad
una vetrina dedicata alle produzioni del
cinema francese contemporaneo.

■ The 14th edition of the MedFilm Festival
– Cinema del Mediterraneo a Roma, offers
once more a rich panorama of cinema in
the Mediterranean, Europe, and the Middle
East, with guests of honour from Turkey
and Germany. The projections and events
in the Official Competition take place at the
Palazzo delle Esposizioni, whilst the
complete retrospective dedicated to the
young Turkish director Fatih Akin, winner of
the Golden Bear in Berlin for his “HeadOn”, with take place at the nearby Teatro
dei Dioscuri, which will also host
projections for the documentary film
section. Villa Medici, will host the rest of
the films, together with an exhibition
dedicated to French contemporary cinema
productions.

comunicazione visiva e i
ragazzi è il tema dei due
workshop che si tengono nel
fine settimana e si
concludono con
l'esposizione del lavoro
dell’artista ospite e degli elaborati dei
partecipanti. I seminari sono volti alla
scoperta di un modo di raccontare con
immagini e figure dove l’illustrazione,
nell’editoria per ragazzi, diventa parte
centrale della comunicazione. Il primo
incontro è con Chiara Rapaccini, il secondo
con Vittoria Facchini, due illustratrici scelte
per la qualità e l’originalità della proposta
visiva.

Benedetto Montebello. Rappresentato
per la prima volta all’Opéra di Parigi il 19
settembre 1827, "La Somnambule"
riscosse un tale successo da indurre
Bellini, solo pochi anni dopo, a
comporre l'omonimo melodramma
ispirandosi al medesimo soggetto.

Sonnambule" at the Teatro
Nazionale from November
the 8th till the 14th.
In three acts, with music
by Ferdinand Hérold and a
libretto by Eugène Scribe and Jean
Pierre Aumer, this new production
features choreography by Luciano
Cannito, scenery and costumes by Elena
Puliti, whilst Benedetto Montebello
conducts the orchestra. First performed
at the Paris Opéra on September 19,
1827, "La Somnambule" was so
successful that Bellini was inspired to
compose the play of the same name just
a few years later.

avanguardie di ieri e al teatro
indipendente di oggi. Un viaggio andata
e ritorno nella creatività teatrale dei
“mitici” anni ’60 e dei giorni nostri per
esplorare e comparare le più
significative esperienze delle due
capitali. La manifestazione, curata da
Mimoteatromovimento, con il supporto
dell’assessorato alle Politiche Culturali
di Roma, intende avviare una riflessione
su quale sia stata l’eredità delle
avanguardie degli anni’60 nel teatro
indipendente contemporaneo. Tra gli
ospiti Ellen Stewart del La Mama
Theatre, l’autore e regista Mario
Moretti, il regista Simone Carella,
l’attrice Lydia Bionidi.
■ This festival is dedicated to the
historical avant-garde and the
independent theatre of today. It is a
return to the theatrical creativity of the
mythical 60's and of that of the present
day, to explore and compare the best
that these two capitals have to offer.
The event is organised by
Mimoteatromovimento, with the
support of the Rome Council's Cultural
Politics office, and it aims to
demonstrate how much independent
contemporary theatre has inherited
from avant-garde theatre in the 60's.
Guests include Ellen Stewart from La

rapporto tra ritmo e movimento, tra
silenzio e suono. In scena "Silet Ballett",
in cui la danza assurge alla forma di
puro movimento, di rapporto tra corpo
e spazio, e "Sixty Four", spettacolo in
cui è la creazione coreografica a
divenire predominante, in un lavoro che
dialoga intensamente con le tecniche
compositive applicate da Bach
nell'"Arte della Fuga".

investigates the relationship between
rhythm and movement, silence and
sound. The pieces are "Silet Ballett",
where dance becomes pure
movement and explores the
relationship between body and space,
and "Sixty Four", a show where the
choreography dominates and
communicates intensely with the
composing techniques emplyed by
Bach in his composition "Arte della
Fuga".
