Curriculum Vitae Rev. P. Gerard K. Whelan SJ Gerard Whelan nasce nel 1959 e cresce a Dublino, in Irlanda, dove frequenta le scuole dei Fratelli delle Scuole Cristiane di De La Salle e dei Gesuiti. Frequenta successivamente il Trinity College a Dublino, ottenendo un “Masters of Arts” in “Economia” nel 1982 ed entra quindi nel noviziato della Compagnia di Gesù. Dopo aver compiuto studi in Filosofia presso il “The Milltown Institute of Philosophy and Theology” a Dublino, Whelan si reca, per due anni di esperienza pastorale, in Zambia, dopo i quali prosegue gli studi per il “Baccalaureato” in Teologia, presso l’“Hekima College, the Jesuit School of Theology”, a Nairobi. Egli viene ordinato sacerdote nel 1992 e continua i suoi studi di specializzazione in teologia a Boston e Toronto. Nel 1996 torna all’Hekima College come docente incaricato fino al 1999, e lì insegna Teologia Fondamentale, Cristologia, e Teologia Pastorale. Dal 2000 al 2006 è parroco presso la parrocchia “St. Joseph the Worker”, sita in un quartiere povero di Nairobi mentre continua, nel frattempo, a insegnare Teologia Pastorale presso l’Hekima College. Durante questo periodo è membro della commissione sull’Ecumenismo per la “Conferenza Episcopale del Kenya” e fornisce la sua contribuzione come consulente per la rappresentanza della Santa Sede presso all’ONU a Nairobi. Nel 2007 viene assegnato come professore alla facoltà di teologia della Pontificia Università Gregoriana a Roma. Nel 2012 viene nominato assistente ecclesiastico per l'Unione Mondiale delle Organizzazioni Femminili Cattoliche dal Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici. Nel 2013 ha organizzato un convegno internazionale alla Gregoriana: “Rivisitare l’Antropologia di Lonergan” e, nello stesso anno a pubblicato un libero: Redeeming History: Social Concern in Bernard Lonergan and Robert Doran (Roma, G&B Press, 2013). Curriculum Vitae Rev. Gerard K. Whelan SJ Gerard Whelan was born in 1959. He grew up in Dublin, Ireland, and attended schools with the De La Salle brothers and the Jesuits. He attended Trinity College Dublin and was awarded an M.A. in Economics in 1982 and then entered the Society of Jesus. After completing two years of philosophical studies, he proceeded to a two-year pastoral experience in Zambia. Next he then completed a Bachelors degree in theology at Hekima College, the Jesuit School of Theology in Nairobi, a constituent college of the Catholic University of East Africa. He was ordained priest in June 1992. He proceeded to graduate studies in Boston and Toronto. In 2000-2006 he worked as pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in a poor area of Nairobi. During these years he continued to teach practical theology at Hekima College. During this time he also worked as a member of the Commission on Ecumenism for the Kenyan Episcopal Conference and as an advisor to the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya in representing the Holy See to activities of the United Nations centred at Nairobi. In 2007 Gerard was assigned to teach in the department of fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome. In 2012 he was appointed ecclesiastical assistant to the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations by the Pontifical Council for the Laity. In 2013 he helped to organize an international conference at the Gregorian: “Revisiting Lonergan’s Anthropology,” and in the same year he published a book: Redeeming History: Social Concern in Bernard Lonergan and Robert Doran (Rome, G&B Press, 2013).
