FACOLTÀ SCIENZE AGRARIE, ALIMENTARI E AMBIENTALI ISTITUTO DI ZOOTECNICA The GEN2PHEN project GEN2PHEN is investigating the genetic basis and the biology of i) feed efficiency; ii) stress tolerance; iii) methane emission and iv) milk fat composition in dairy cattle. To accomplish these tasks it considers a set of biomarkers known from the literature to be associated to the target traits and dissects them to assess the genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic components. The final aims of the project are on the one side a better understanding of the biology of the traits investigated, on the other side Contacts to test and optimise biomarkers and genomic tools potentially useful in selection programs and herd Administration management.. Innovative models using genomic Manuela Rancati e-mail [email protected] information to obtain reliable breeding values have been adopted, leading to an increased complexity of the evaluation process but, at the same time, Stefano Capomaccio e-mail [email protected] improving the estimates and better responding to the demands of farmers and the needs of the society and markets. However, thanks to a first Winter School 2014 project (SELMOL) the major national breeding associations already managed to fit in the most advanced international levels of molecular genetic improvement. This project aims at creating an integrated network of molecular genetic tools knowledge and to technical exploit and operational skills to answer the needs of animal selection sector. The first aim is to validate through an extended experimental plan the knowledge acquired in SELMOL and to create, transfer and update the methods of genetic improvement using molecular information. www.unicatt.it www.gen2phen.it Piacenza 3-7 February 2014 Residenza Gasparini Via dell’Anselma 9 In collaborazione con The Winter School 2014 Schedule 05/02/14 Morning 03/02/14 Morning animal farming We have the pleasure to announce the Winter School “Precision farming for the sustainability of dairy cattle production”. The school will be held at the “Residenza Arrival and registration Gasparini” of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, in Piacenza, Italy from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th February 03/02/14 Afternoon 2014 and is open to fifty (50) international researchers. Gen2Phen project description and The Winter School is organized in the framework of the general introduction GEN2PHEN project in collaboration with the INNOVAGEN Project and EAAP. Lectures will be given by an international team of experts that will describe and discuss advances in phenotyping methods, –omic technologies and bioinformatics applied to the investigation of dairy cow feed efficiency, environmental impact, interaction between microbes and the gut and stress driven metabolic diseases.
