1. Le espressioni italiane “il più … possibile” o “più … che puoi” si rendono con il
comparativo di uguaglianza
o Come back as soon as possibile
o Call me as soon as you can
o I did it as well as I could
2. Per indicare aumento o diminuzione progressiva (italiano: “sempre più/sempre
meno”), cioè il comparativo intensivo, si collegano con “and” i due comparativi
o The fog is getting thicker and thicker
o I can see less and less
o I feel more and more nervous as the day of my exam gets near
3. Per indicare due cambiamenti collegati tra loro, cioè il comparativo correlativo, si
usano due comparativi preceduti da “the”. Attenzione al word order che non
corrisponde affatto alla frase italiana
o The longer we wait, the worse it is
o The more I sleep, the more tired I feel
o The more nervous you get, the more mistakes you’ll make
In alcuni casi è possible sottintendere soggetto e verbo “be”
o Let’s leave early. The earlier the better
