La terza persona singolare del present simple ha una -s finale.
Le forme negativa e interrogativa delle frasi al presente richiedono l’uso dell’ausiliare do / does.
Nelle risposte brevi “Yes / No” si ripete solo l’ausiliare (seguito da not nelle frasi negative).
He speaks English, but he doesn’t speak German.
Does he speak German? – Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.
Uso
Il present simple indica stabilità e abitudine e si usa per esprimere:
– preferenze, interessi o sentimenti
Roman likes football.
– situazioni permanenti
Alessia lives in London.
– azioni abituali e routine, spesso associate ad avverbi di frequenza
The shop opens from 9.am. to 5p.m.
We often go away for the weekend.
– parlare di fatti e verità generali
Water boils at 100°.
Per le variazioni ortografiche dei verbi che terminano con -s, -sh, -ch, -ss, -o e -y nell’aggiunta della
-s della terza persona singolare.
