 Il Past simple di molti verbi inglesi è irregolare. La forma del Past simple è uguale per tutte le
persone, sia nei verbi regolari, sia nei verbi irregolari.

VERBI REGOLARI
Il Past simple dei verbi regolari si forma aggiungendo –ed alla forma base del verbo (per tutte le persone).

Anche nella negazione la forma del Past simple è uguale per tutte le persone, sia nei verbi regolari,
sia nei verbi irregolari: si inserisce didn’t tra il soggetto e il verbo all’infinito senza to.

Did si usa nella forma interrogativa del Past simple di tutti i verbi non ausiliari, per tutte le persone.
Did precede il soggetto. Il verbo è all’infinito senza to per tutte le persone.
Quando il verbo to have non è usato con funzione di ausiliare, richiede did nelle forme interrogativa
e negativa. Es: I didn’t have lunch at home.
USO DEL PAST SIMPLE.
Usiamo il Past simple per parlare di azioni compiute nel passato e completamente concluse. Es: I
saw a film yesterday. (Ieri ho visto un film); Amelia broke all records with her flight (Amelia battè
tutti i primati con il suo volo).
Il Past simple si può rendere in italiano con il passato remoto, il passato prossimo o l’imperfetto.
