TALKING CRICKET 1.0
The system has been developed to satisfy the needs coming from the management of the information
announcements addressed to the passengers of Milan subway.
Thanks to its open and flexible architecture the system can be easily used in many other applications.
"TALKING CRICKET" can be used in the railway world about the automatic broadcasting.
The announcements can be general information, advertising messages, notices about the traffic and emergency
events.
The system is able to communicate with external systems, from witch it can receive and give commands in order to
activate or synchronize messages broadcasting.

INTRODUCTION TO THE"TALKING CRICKET”
"TALKING CRICKET" is an automatic system for audio
announcement broadcasting.
"TALKING CRICKET" can manage the creation,
broadcasting and posting of scheduled announces for
people into public or private places.
The announcements can be created in different ways:
! by TTS engine (Text To Speech engine converts
automatically a written text to voice)
! by a microphone
! by external system and than imported
The announcements are archived in a database and
sent at fixed times as defined in a timetable and with
different destination zones according to predefined
calendar. It' s possible to define the repeating of an
announcement, defining the hours and the days of the
week and a cycle time; the calendar can have every
combination of configured destinations.
The calendars defined by the operator contribute in the
creation of the day timetable.
The graphical user interface helps in monitoring and
modifying the schedule in a simple and easy way.
The system can manage a big number of workstations
that can be added to the system by a simple LAN

The "TALKING CRICKET" is able to interface itself with
audio diffusion system already existent (“local seat” or
“destinations”), by a suitable front-end.
"TALKING CRICKET" activity can be configured in order
to avoid interfering with local announcements (external
announcement), managing the priority levels and
delaying an announcement if the system is busy.
"TALKING CRICKET" can have as destination another
"TALKING CRICKET" system, and than also his
reachable destinations.
The modularity of the system is guaranteed by a
software object oriented and distributed, that leans on
the platform CORBA.
The "TALKING CRICKET" implements Event Log
functionality related to announce broadcasting activity.
User can query, create reports for statistics, print and
archive.
