L’IMPERFETTO.
Use
 Si usa per parlare di azioni o eventi avvenuti in un punto o un
periodo preciso del passato. Si tratta di azioni iniziate e terminate
nel passato che non hanno più nessun legame col presente.
Pertanto, (a differenza del Present Perfect) si usa con espressioni di
tempo che indicano un punto o un periodo preciso nel passato come:
yesterday
in 1990
ago
last night/week/month/etc.
then
when
I saw that film last week.
I left school in 1990.
 Si usa per parlare di azioni consecutive, che si sono susseguite una
dopo l’altra (soprattutto nelle storie):
He parked his car, went into the station and bought a ticket.
