L’induismo e la sua visione della sessualità

Obiettivi formativi generali (risultati di apprendimento previsti e competenze
da acquisire)
Il corso ha l’obiettivo di far conseguire allo studente una buona conoscenza
dell’induismo attraverso l’analisi accurata dei suoi principali dettami. In secondo
luogo, il corso si propone di affrontare un tema centrale di questa corrente religiosa: il
sesso e la sensualità. Queste tematiche, infatti, percorrono come un fil rouge tutte le

forme letterarie dell’India antica e classica: dalla filosofia alla teologia, dalla
letteratura narrativa e poetica a quella normativa.
Contenuti (max 500 battute)
Durante il corso verrà presentato un quadro esaustivo dell’induismo attraverso
l’esame dei testi scritti, sull’argomento, dai più insigni studiosi italiani e non. Poi si
passerà all’esame del celeberrimo Kamasutra e di una scelta di poesie erotiche in
sanscrito (ovviamente tradotte in italiano). In tal modo lo studente sarà in grado di
comprendere come l’eros faccia parte integrante della visione del mondo hindu.
L’erotismo -- a volte demonizzato, a volte esaltato come supremo fine dell’esistenza
umana – è forse, infatti, il punto d’osservazione privilegiato per comprendere la civiltà
indiana.
Testi di riferimento
La docente metterà a disposizione degli studenti un volume di dispense da lei stessa
redatte. Non sarà necessario l’acquisto di altri testi. Per gli studenti desiderosi di
approfondimenti è a disposizione, nelle dispense, una corposa bibliografia
integrativa.

The objective of my course is to allow the students to become well-informed about
Hinduism through an extensive analysis of its main precepts. Secondly, my course
will focus on one of the topics central to this ‘religion’: sex and sensuality. In fact,
these themes represent a true fil rouge in all literary genres in ancient and classical

India: from its philosophy to its theology, from its prose literature and poetry to its
normative texts.
Contents (max 500 battute)
The course will present a thorough description of Hinduism through an analysis of
texts on the subject by the most eminent Italian and foreign scholars. Then it will
move on to an analysis of the very well-known Kamasutra and a selection of erotic
Sanskrit poetry (obviously through Italian translations). In this way, the student will be
able to understand how Eros is an integral part of the Hindu world view. Perhaps
Eroticism - sometimes demonized, sometimes glorified as the supreme purpose of
human existence - is, indeed, a priviledged vantage point from where one may truly
understand Indian civilisation.
Bibliography
The teacher will provide her own lecture notes to the class. It will not be necessary to
purchase any other texts. For those students eager to do further research on the
subject, a rich bibliography will accompany the lecture notes.
